One of the parts I really love about engagement sessions is giving a couple the reins to choose a location + style of shoot that represents something special to them.
It can be as simple as a beautiful place they both love or a brewery they go to for trivia...whatever it is, it gives a special life to there session.
Nikole + Christian had a lot of ideas that centered around their sweet little adventurous life together. We talked through all sorts of ideas, and finally landed on simply exploring the neighborhood they live their day to day in, and ending in the trunk of the car that they've spent so many days road tripping + camping in.
(Which is pretty damn cute)
Similar to shooting an "in home" session, choosing somewhere familiar does two really awesome things.
1. Helps you to feel at ease in front of a camera
Think of "home field advantage" hahah yea...same concept. I do plenty of things to
make even the most camera shy feel confident in front of my camera, but this is a killer
first step.
2. Opens the door for us to learn more about one another
I don't just want couples to choose unique places to grow my portfolio or get out of
giving suggestions...(I'm full of suggestions for anyone who needs them!) ...but places
are such an important part of relationships. They hold memories + emotion the same
way songs and smells do. We aren't just shooting, but creating an experience for you
to look back on. I want my couples to remember their session as a unique experience
they shared, rather than a chore or box to check off their wedding planning list.
Most importantly, learning why a place is important to you + learning more about you
as a couple helps me to capture that bond in a way that only works for you.
